Alabama football manages quarterback competition and running back injuries

The Alabama Crimson Tide football team is navigating several positional battles and injury setbacks as they prepare for their season opener against East Carolina on Sept. 5.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer indicated that the starting quarterback competition remains undecided following the first scrimmage of fall camp. While Austin Mack reportedly started the scrimmage with the first-team offense, both Mack and Keelon Russell showed promise. DeBoer noted that while the scrimmage had a slow start, both players improved as the session progressed.

In the running back unit, the team is managing injuries to sophomore AK Dear and freshman EJ Crowell. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb stated that Crowell’s injury is not season-ending. In their absence, freshman Trae'shawn Brown is expected to see increased repetitions. Grubb praised Brown’s vision, pass protection, and ability to play out of the backfield.
