Alabama football names starting quarterback and offensive line

Alabama football has finalized key positions in its starting lineup following fall camp as the team prepares for its season opener against East Carolina.

In the quarterback competition, sophomore Keelon Russell has been named the starter over senior Austin Mack. Russell, the highest-rated recruit in program history, is described by analysts as a hybrid of previous quarterbacks Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson. Head coach Kalen DeBoer noted that Mack remains a supportive teammate despite losing the starting role.

On the offensive line, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb indicated that the starting five are largely determined. Junior William Sanders has effectively secured the left guard position after returning from offseason surgery. The unit also includes Jackson Lloyd, Racin Delgatty, and Michael Carroll, while Jayvin James has been working to secure the right tackle spot.
