Hurricane Isaias threatens Gulf Coast and Alabama-Georgia game
Hurricane Isaias, a Category 3 storm, is approaching the U.S. Gulf Coast, threatening Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi with life-threatening storm surges, heavy rain, and high winds. The storm has already impacted the region, causing a suspension of approximately 63% of oil production in the Gulf of Mexico.
Despite the weather, the highly anticipated college football game between No. 2 Georgia and No. 6 Alabama in Tuscaloosa remains scheduled for Saturday night. To mitigate field conditions, the University of Alabama is utilizing a ‘SubAir’ drainage system to keep the turf as dry as possible. However, local officials have shortened tailgating hours and barred tents due to wind concerns.
President Donald Trump announced he will no longer attend the Alabama-Georgia game. He stated that his absence is intended to ensure first responders and law enforcement can focus entirely on the hurricane without concerns regarding his security or presence. Instead, he plans to hold a rally in Tennessee.
