Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey Proclaims Will Roberts Day to Honor Teen Cancer Fighter
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey issued an official proclamation designating August 1, 2026 as Will Roberts Day, honoring 15‑year‑old William “Will” Roberts of Ralph. Roberts died on July 23, 2025 after a year‑and‑a‑half battle with stage IV osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer. His public plea for an experimental treatment went viral, drawing more than 6.5 million Facebook views and prompting assistance from Dr. Mehmet Oz and U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The outpouring of support funded his care at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, where he later passed away.
Ivey’s proclamation praised Roberts’s courage, faith and the inspiration he gave to Alabamians and people nationwide, and it designates the day of his funeral as a state‑wide remembrance for all children battling cancer.
