Alabama Governor announces grants for sewers and forensic equipment

Governor Kay Ivey has announced several grants to support infrastructure and public safety in Alabama.

Scottsboro will receive a $500,000 grant dedicated to improving the city's sewer system.

Additionally, $262,770 has been awarded to upgrade state forensic equipment. Administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs using U.S. Department of Justice funds, this grant will support the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. The funding is intended to assist with opioid and synthetic drug cases by providing new morgue equipment and a Random Access Biochip Technology Analyzer. This technology allows for rapid, multi-drug screening to improve the speed and accuracy of toxicology results for law enforcement agencies across the state.
