Alabama Governor Ivey proclaims Veterans Week

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has proclaimed November 5 through November 11, 2026, as Veterans Week in Alabama. The proclamation highlights recent initiatives by the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs to expand services and resources for former service members.

Key developments include the restoration of the Command Sgt. Maj. Bennie G. Adkins State Veterans Home following an April 2025 fire, with residents returning to the facility in late September. Additionally, construction has begun on the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in North Alabama, which offers free burial plots to honorably discharged veterans and their spouses.

The Governor also noted the impact of the Alabama Veterans Resource Center, a public-private partnership established under Senate Bill 70 in 2025. This center serves as a centralized contact point to help veterans and their families access benefits and community resources.
