Alabama Governor Kay Ivey Highlights Yearby Family's Success with CHOOSE Act
Governor Kay Ivey introduced the Yearby family of Phenix City as the latest beneficiaries of Alabama’s CHOOSE Act, a state education‑savings‑account program that lets families choose schools. Three of the couple’s five children – Josiah, Jaci and Jeremiah – attended The Rock Academy during the 2025‑26 school year using CHOOSE Act funds, and the family renewed the funding for 2026‑27.
Ivey said the program “opened new opportunities” for the Yearbys, allowing them to select a learning environment that fits their children’s academic, social and religious needs. John Yearby serves as chaplain for Turner Fence, LLC, while his wife Cecily works in real estate. Josiah participates in The Rock Academy’s special‑needs program, Jeremiah is eager for school each morning, and Jaci thanked the governor for the chance to attend a school they love. The CHOOSE Act aims to expand educational options for Alabama families by providing savings accounts for tuition and related expenses.
