Alabama health organizations urge seasonal vaccinations
Health organizations in Alabama are launching a campaign titled ‘Prevent What You Can: Ask Your Doctor’ to encourage residents to prepare for the upcoming respiratory illness season. The initiative is a partnership between the Alabama Department of Public Health, the Alabama Hospital Association, and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.
Medical experts are urging citizens to consult with healthcare providers regarding vaccinations for influenza, COVID-19, RSV, and certain types of pneumonia. While vaccines may not prevent every infection, officials state they can reduce the risk of severe illness, complications, and hospitalizations.
State Health Officer Dr. Scott Harris noted that discussions with doctors can help individuals prepare for the season and consider the protection of high-risk relatives and neighbors. Danne Howard, president and CEO of the Alabama Hospital Association, highlighted that respiratory illnesses typically increase hospital demand during the fall and winter months.
