Alabama high school football game suspended due to power failure

A high school football season opener between Mae Jemison High School and Benjamin Russell High School was suspended indefinitely due to a blown transformer at Louis Crews Stadium. The game, held at Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, experienced flickering lights and scoreboard glitches approximately 10 minutes after kickoff.

After 20 minutes of play, the power failed to return, and the game was halted around 7:30 p.m. CT because it became too dark to continue. The contest was paused during the first quarter with the score tied at 0-0. Rather than forfeiting, officials and coaches are planning to resume the game from its current point in approximately two months, utilizing the teams' upcoming schedules to facilitate a restart.
