Alabama Labor Day: Mobile parades and fatal traffic crashes

The Labor Day holiday in Alabama was marked by both community celebrations and significant traffic incidents. In Mobile, the annual Labor Day parade featured marching bands, floats, and music along Government Street in the downtown area.

While many businesses closed for the holiday, first responders and healthcare professionals continued to work. However, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) reported a somber weekend on the roads. Following four days of increased patrols, ALEA recorded six fatalities resulting from traffic crashes in Baldwin, Cleburne, Colbert, Shelby, and Lauderdale counties. Troopers investigated 322 traffic crashes, leading to 107 injuries and 2,481 citations.

On the waterways, ALEA Marine Patrol reported no fatalities, though they investigated three boating incidents that resulted in three injuries. Law enforcement also made 34 DUI arrests and two boating under the influence arrests during the holiday period.
