Alabama launches Operation We Remember to combat veteran suicide

The Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs has launched the 2026 ‘Operation We Remember’ campaign, a statewide initiative aimed at preventing veteran suicide and honoring those lost.

In Morgan County, the Commission is participating by displaying 150 American flags around the courthouse to represent the 150 veterans in Alabama who died by suicide between October 2024 and October 2025.

Health officials and veterans' service officers noted that mental health challenges such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety, and substance abuse are significant factors. Experts emphasized the importance of reaching out for help, noting that symptoms of PTSD can include nightmares, flashbacks, and difficulty concentrating.
