Alabama League of Municipalities graduates 98 local officials
The Alabama League of Municipalities held its annual graduation and awards ceremonies at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center, recognizing 98 graduates of the Certified Municipal Official program.
The program provides training in government operations, including budgeting, ethics, public records, and zoning, to help mayors and council members manage their communities and adhere to state laws. Fairhope Mayor Sherry Sullivan, the League’s immediate past president, delivered the commencement address.
New regulations require mayors and council members who have not earned basic certification to complete 10 hours of training annually during their first term starting January 1, 2025, totaling 40 hours. Once basic certification is obtained, officials must complete five hours of training each year to maintain their status.
