Alabama marks Sweet Grown Alabama Day, promoting local agriculture

On July 25, Alabama celebrated Sweet Grown Alabama Day, a statewide event encouraging residents to buy locally grown and caught products. The non‑profit Sweet Grown Alabama organized farmer‑market pop‑ups, special promotions, giveaways and family activities across the state, and urged shoppers to look for the Sweet Grown Alabama logo.

Governor Kay Ivey signed a proclamation officially designating July 25 as Sweet Grown Alabama Day, highlighting the contribution of farmers and fishermen to the state’s economy. Assistant director Aisling Walding said, “When consumers choose to buy Alabama‑grown and caught products, they are investing in local families, strengthening rural communities and helping ensure agriculture remains a vital part of our state’s future.” Social media activity surged as Alabamians shared photos of fresh produce, meat, flowers and other local goods.

The celebration aims to sustain support for Alabama agriculture year‑round by connecting consumers with farms, markets and member businesses throughout the state.
