Alabama congressional race sees surge in campaign advertising spending

With four weeks remaining in the election season, political campaigns are significantly increasing expenditures on television advertising for a competitive congressional race in Alabama’s 2nd District.

Federal records indicate that supporters of Democratic incumbent U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures and Republican challenger state Rep. Rhett Marques have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on outreach. The Alabama Christian Conservatives, a PAC supporting Marques, spent $211,035 in paid media recently, including $85,500 for advertisements on WSFA. Additionally, the PAC 'No Going Back', which is associated with Donald Trump, spent $220,833 on paid media at the end of September.

Voters in the Montgomery media market are expected to see a high volume of these advertisements throughout October as both sides intensify their efforts.
