Alabama organizations launch initiatives to combat food insecurity

Organizations in Alabama are coordinating efforts to combat rising food insecurity across the state. In Madison County, local groups are teaming up to provide food giveaways to help families manage nutritional needs.

In Central Alabama, the United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) reports that approximately 187,640 people across its six-county region face food insecurity. In 2025, UWCA-supported programs provided more than 15.7 million meals. Key resources include Meals on Wheels, which delivers nutritious meals and performs wellness checks for homebound seniors and individuals with disabilities, particularly in Jefferson County.
