Alabama police departments investigate Flock camera misuse

Two separate incidents in St. Clair County, Alabama, led to disciplinary action after employees misused Flock Safety’s automated license‑plate reader systems. In Springville, an officer resigned after using the system to monitor a family member; in Moody, an employee was terminated for violating camera‑use policies. Both cases have been referred to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency for review.

Alabama law‑enforcement leaders say the technology remains essential for locating missing persons, finding suspects and recovering stolen vehicles, provided clear policies are in place. Police Chief Michael Edmondson affirmed his support, noting the system’s value despite the recent controversies. Flock’s cameras capture vehicle data—not facial biometrics—according to the company.
