Alabama public high schools rank in top 5% nationally

Eight Alabama public high schools have been ranked among the top 5% of high schools nationwide in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings. The evaluation assessed nearly 18,000 of the country’s approximately 27,000 public high schools using metrics such as graduation rates, state test performance, and student participation in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams.

New Century Tech Demo High School in Huntsville achieved the highest ranking in the state, placing No. 131 nationally. Other Alabama schools in the top 5% include Homewood High School (No. 212), Mountain Brook High School (No. 215), Vestavia Hills High School (No. 533), Hewitt-Trussville High School (No. 679), Fairhope High School (No. 701), Spain Park High School (No. 782), and Oak Mountain High School (No. 818).

In total, 64 Alabama schools, representing 21.8% of those ranked, placed within the top 25% nationally.
