Alabama receives $144 million for rural healthcare expansion

U.S. Representative Barry Moore announced that $144 million is being allocated to Alabama through the Rural Health Transformation Program. The funding is being distributed via 138 grants across the state to improve healthcare access and modernize rural medical infrastructure.

The investment aims to address several key areas, including the modernization of electronic health records and cybersecurity, the expansion of telehealth and mobile health services, and improvements to patient transportation. Additionally, the program seeks to strengthen emergency and maternal care, as well as expand access to mental health and substance abuse treatment through school-based services and mobile crisis response.

To bolster the medical workforce, the funds will support rural residency and training programs, scholarships, apprenticeships, and recruitment efforts for doctors, nurses, and EMS professionals. The program is designed to provide local communities with the flexibility to address specific regional needs rather than applying a uniform national approach.
