Alabama sets execution dates for two death‑row inmates

Governor Kay Ivey announced that Jeremy Williams, convicted of kidnapping, raping and strangling five‑year‑old Kamarie Holland in Phenix City in 2021, will be executed in August. Williams received four death sentences for the crime.

After the U.S. Supreme Court halted a June execution that would have used nitrogen hypoxia, Ivey ordered that Jeffery Lee be scheduled for execution on September 17 by lethal injection. Lee had previously selected nitrogen gas as his preferred method, but legal challenges questioned its constitutionality, and he suggested a firing squad as a less painful alternative.
