Alabama Sports Writers Association releases first high school football rankings

The Alabama Sports Writers Association (ASWA) has released its first regular-season high school football poll, highlighting shifts in state rankings. In Class 2A, Fyffe has ascended to the No. 1 spot following an overtime victory, displacing Piedmont, which fell to No. 4 after a loss to Jacksonville.

In other divisions, Thompson leads Class 6A, while Clay-Chalkville tops Class 5A. In the AISA division, Patrician Academy holds the top position, with Morgan Academy ranking fifth following a significant win. Local teams in Dallas County, including Southside and Selma High, have also gained early recognition, with Southside appearing at No. 6 in Class 2A and Selma High leading the “others receiving votes” list in Class 4A.
