Alabama universities dominate Republican Senate staffing

A study by the Young Men Research Project, analyzing nearly 2,400 Capitol Hill résumés, reveals that graduates from the University of Alabama and Auburn University hold a significant presence in Republican U.S. Senate offices.

The University of Alabama has 26 alumni working in Republican Senate offices, a figure equal to the combined total of all six Ivy League institutions. Auburn University follows with 19 alumni. Together, these two Alabama institutions account for 45 graduates in Republican offices, surpassing the 44 alumni from the University of Mississippi.

The research indicates a strong regional pipeline for Republican staffers, noting that eight of the ten most common undergraduate schools for GOP staffers are located in the South. Additionally, Republican staffers are 61% more likely to be graduates of public universities compared to 39% for private institutions. In contrast, the study found that of the 102 Ivy League alumni in the Senate, 76 work for Democratic offices.
