Alaşehir hosts seminar on the historical role of women in Anatolia

A seminar titled ‘Ancient Women of Alaşehir - A Journey to the City’s Female Memory’ was held at Kurşunlu Han, organized by the Alaşehir Municipality. The event focused on the historical role of women in Anatolia, spanning from ancient mythology and beliefs to modern cultural heritage.

Speaker, researcher, and educator Hüma Zeybek discussed the productive and transformative roles women have held within Anatolian society for thousands of years. Zeybek specifically addressed the concept of the ‘bride’ in Turkish culture, noting that the role extends beyond biological lineage to include the transmission of productivity, lifestyles, and structural values to new families. Zeybek emphasized that the seminar aimed to convey the cultural and historical knowledge held within Anatolian lands rather than deifying women.
