Alaşehir launches inclusive science and art project for special needs students

A new inclusive education project, titled ‘Journey to an Inclusive Society with Skills Overcoming Barriers,’ has launched in the Alaşehir district of Manisa. Supported by the TÜBİTAK 4008 program, the initiative is the first of its kind in the district.

Hosted at the Alaşehir Science and Art Center, the five-day program is designed for students with special needs. The project aims to foster skills in science, technology, art, mathematics, biology, algorithms, archaeology, and economics through practical activities. The curriculum focuses on developing observation, problem-solving, questioning, production, and collaborative working skills.

Project coordinator Dr. Cennet Yıldırım stated that the core philosophy is to focus on what children are capable of achieving rather than their limitations. Cüneyt Akkuş, Director of the Alaşehir Science and Art Center, emphasized the importance of ensuring special needs individuals can participate in scientific activities in an equal and barrier-free manner.
