Alóag-Santo Domingo highway closure in Ecuador

The Alóag-Santo Domingo highway in Ecuador will be closed on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, from 05:00 to 18:00. The closure is necessary for the installation of four culverts at kilometers 88 and 91 in the Unión del Toachi-KFC section. This route serves as a vital connection between the Coast and the Sierra regions.

Authorities from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Prefecture of Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas have recommended alternative routes, including Calacalí-La Independencia and Las Mercedes-Los Bancos. However, the Las Mercedes-Los Bancos route has faced recent complications due to heavy rains that caused road damage and potholes, which may impact travel conditions.
