Alagoas court orders mental health exam for officer accused of killing colleagues

A court in Alagoas has ordered a mental health evaluation for civil police officer Gildate Goes Moraes Sobrinho. He is accused of shooting and killing two colleagues, Denivaldo Jardel Lira Moraes and Yago Gomes Pereira, inside a police vehicle in Delmiro Gouveia on May 20.

Investigations indicate the victims were seated in the front of the vehicle while Moraes Sobrinho was in the back seat. The medical examination, to be conducted by the Judicial Psychiatric Center, aims to determine if the accused had the capacity to understand the illicit nature of his actions or control his behavior at the time of the crimes. The expert has an initial 45-day period to submit the report.
