Alagoas driver reports online lynching and threats following false accusations

A ride-hailing driver in Alagoas, Brazil, has sought assistance from the Civil Police after being targeted by online defamation and threats. The driver, identified as Carlos Jorge, reported that his photograph was circulated in social media groups and messaging apps accompanied by a false accusation of sexual assault against a vulnerable person.

Jorge stated that the image used was an old profile picture from approximately three years ago and does not reflect his current appearance. The viral misinformation led to real-world consequences, including an invasion and vandalism of his residence by local residents. The driver reported that while he was not home during the incident, his wife and two young children were present. He has filed a police report to request a formal investigation into the slander and threats.
