Alagoas Elder with Alzheimer Rescued from Abuse in Craíbas

Police and the Centro de Referência Especializado de Assistência Social (Creas) of Craíbas intervened after a report of severe neglect involving an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s disease in the rural community of Folha Miúda de Cima, Craíbas, Alagoas. Responders found the woman with a facial wound near her left eye and observed unsanitary conditions, including diseased domestic animals, waste, and strong urine odor. The investigation revealed that her daughter, identified as an alcoholic, had repeatedly allowed strangers to consume alcohol at the home, creating a hostile environment for the senior. The woman was transferred, together with Creas staff, to the Casa Maternal in Craíbas, where she will undergo medical evaluation and later be placed in a temporary shelter as ordered by the Public Ministry. The daughter was taken to the local Integrated Public Security Center (CISP) and a police report was filed. The case, monitored by Creas for about a year, will continue under the oversight of the municipal social assistance department.
