Alagoas Fire Department issues new electric vehicle charging safety rules

The Military Fire Department of Alagoas (CBMAL) has introduced new safety requirements for the installation and operation of electric and hybrid vehicle charging points across the state. Published via Technical Instruction No. 45/2026, the regulations apply to residential condominiums, commercial establishments, and private garages.

Key mandates include the installation of emergency electrical shutdown devices, clear signage for charging stations, and strict adherence to fire prevention measures. The rules also require maintaining unobstructed escape routes and ensuring that electrical installations are compatible with the specific technical characteristics of each building.

Authorities emphasized the need for comprehensive engineering planning rather than isolated installations to prevent building fires. Property owners, building managers, and business operators are advised to consult qualified professionals to assess their current facilities and meet the new compliance deadlines, which vary based on the specific requirements of each installation.
