Brazilian fire services launch recruitment, training and community events
The Corpo de Bombeiros in several Brazilian states announced multiple initiatives. In Alagoas, the fire corps issued a corrected notice for a 2026 public exam offering 172 vacancies for officer and soldier positions, with applications open from 16 June to 21 July. In Minas Gerais, a public contest for 342 higher‑education‑qualified candidates was extended to 24 June, covering both soldier and officer tracks. The Minas Gerais corps also organised a free "Open‑Gate" day on 20 June in Poços de Caldas, inviting the public to tour facilities and learn about fire safety.
In Mato Grosso, the fire corps began a 20‑hour re‑qualification program for 17 soldiers to support aerial forest‑fire operations, ahead of a severe dry season. The programme prepares crews for use of two Air Tractor aircraft, four civil‑defence planes and a new R$ 32 million helicopter. Simultaneously, the state opened a temporary‑brigadist hiring process for 150 positions across 29 municipalities, offering R$ 2.6 k salaries for four‑month contracts to assist fire‑prevention and response.
A separate incident in Alta Floresta, Mato Grosso, saw firefighters extinguish a residential blaze using about 9,000 litres of water, preventing spread to neighboring homes. No injuries were reported. These actions reflect a coordinated effort across Brazil’s fire services to expand personnel, enhance operational capabilities and engage communities.
