Alagoas Governor-elect JHC congratulates President Lula

João Henrique Caldas, known as JHC, the governor-elect of Alagoas, has publicly congratulated President Lula on his reelection. In a social media post, JHC emphasized a desire for an institutional partnership between the state and federal governments based on dialogue, respect, and commitment to the population.

JHC stated, “The campaign is over. Now it is time to dismantle the platforms and work for everyone!” This move follows a period of political silence during the second round of elections, where he faced pressure from right-wing allies to endorse other candidates. His comments have drawn mixed reactions, including criticism from some conservative voters and praise from others who support intergovernmental cooperation.

Following the elections, JHC has emerged with a strengthened political base. In addition to winning the governorship, his political group includes his wife, Marina Cândia, who was elected to the Senate, as well as representatives in the Chamber of Deputies and the Legislative Assembly of Alagoas.
