Alagoas police indict woman for homicide in Maceió studio fire

The Civil Police of Alagoas have indicted 28-year-old Ana Beatriz Monteiro for qualified homicide following the death of her boyfriend, 29-year-old Luiz Gustavo Nascimento Lins. The incident occurred on April 1 in a studio apartment in the Farol neighborhood of Maceió.

Lins, a delivery driver and app driver, died in the hospital after sustaining deep burns to approximately 90% of his body. Investigators concluded the fire was intentional rather than accidental. While Monteiro initially claimed the blaze was caused by a gas cylinder explosion, forensic analysis revealed the cylinder and stove components were intact and showed no signs of heat exposure consistent with an explosion.

Police suggest the motive may have been jealousy or relationship conflicts. Forensic evidence also highlighted a significant discrepancy in injuries between the two individuals: while the victim suffered extensive burns, the suspect sustained only second-degree burns on her arm and foot.
