Alagoas road deaths drop 15.3% in 2025

The traffic department of Alagoas reported a 15.3% reduction in traffic‑related fatalities in 2025 compared with the previous year. Recorded accidents fell to 3,037 with 682 deaths, down from 3,517 accidents and 805 deaths in 2024. Motorcyclists remained the most vulnerable group, accounting for 59% of the deaths.

The report identified the main causes of crashes as alcohol consumption, driving in the wrong direction, driver fatigue and excessive speed. Detran Alagoas director‑president Marco Fireman emphasized that “no traffic death is acceptable” and highlighted ongoing education, stricter enforcement, infrastructure upgrades and planning as part of the response. The most accident‑prone roads were the BR‑101, BR‑316 and AL‑220 corridors around Arapiraca, as well as several avenues in Maceió.
