Alameda Central vendors protest after government clearance operation

Street vendors in Mexico City are protesting after a government operation cleared informal commerce from the interior walkways of Alameda Central. While the park's inner paths are currently clear, vendors have relocated to the surrounding areas, including the Metro and Metrobús Hidalgo stations.

Protesters have established stalls along Avenida Juárez, blocking traffic from the Chinatown entrance to the corner of Eje Central. This disruption has forced motorists to seek alternative routes, such as Paseo de la Reforma. Approximately 100 officers from the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security are deployed in the vicinity to manage the situation.

César Cravioto, the Secretary of Government, stated that the removal was necessary because vendors exceeded an agreed-upon limit of 70 stalls, with authorities finding more than 200. The protests have occurred in waves, with recent demonstrations involving groups including feminist collectives known as 'Mercaditas feministas' who have set up stalls near the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
