Alamein-Africa Forum opens in Egypt to drive continental trade

The inaugural Alamein-Africa Forum opened in New Alamein, Egypt, bringing together approximately 1,500 officials, business leaders, and investors from across the continent. Organized by the Egyptian government, the African Union Commission, AUDA-NEPAD, and Afreximbank, the biennial event aims to foster economic integration, expand intra-African trade, and mobilize efforts for the Africa Agenda 2063.

During the forum, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi emphasized that economic development requires political stability and respect for national sovereignty. He noted that while the African private sector contributes over 70% of the continent's GDP, approximately 85% of its transactions are conducted with entities outside of Africa. The forum includes high-level conferences focusing on economy, development, and continental integration, addressing critical issues such as food security, energy, infrastructure, and digital transformation.

Parallel to the forum, the 8th African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting was held to coordinate continental integration and evaluate progress on key projects. On the sidelines, discussions included potential investments in Somalia and interest from Nigeria’s Dangote Group in Egypt’s energy and chemical sectors.
