El Alamein International Airshow 2026 showcases global defense technology

The second edition of the El Alamein International Airshow 2026 has concluded at El Alamein International Airport in Egypt. Inaugurated by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the event featured over 250 exhibitors from approximately 100 countries, highlighting Egypt’s strategic goal to become a regional aerospace and defense hub.

A major highlight was the sales agreement signed between HAVELSAN and Egypt’s Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) for the HAMZA-1 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). This agreement transitions their partnership from joint development and production into a commercial phase, with deliveries expected to begin soon.

Global defense leaders participated extensively. Boeing, a silver sponsor, showcased the AH-64 Apache, CH-47 Chinook, and KC-46A Pegasus. Turkish companies, including Aselsan, showcased air defense systems like the ‘Tolga’ and AESA radars. Russian presence was notable, featuring the Su-57 aircraft. Additionally, reports indicate Egypt is seeking to diversify its military procurement, with potential interest in purchasing 24 additional Dassault Rafale fighter jets from France to modernize its fleet.

The exhibition emphasized the rapid growth of drone technology and the localization of manufacturing, as domestic entities like the AOI demonstrated increased industrial self-sufficiency in unmanned systems and aircraft components.
