Alamut Castle added to UNESCO World Heritage List

Alamut Castle, a historic site dating from the 11th and 13th centuries, has been officially added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The decision was made during the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Busan, South Korea.

During a celebration in the Qazvin province of Iran, officials emphasized that Alamut is not a single structure but part of a vast defense and civilization network consisting of seven interconnected castles, including Lambsar, Shamskale, Shirkuh, and Novizershah. Located strategically on the historic Silk Road, the site is expected to significantly enhance the global recognition of Iranian culture.

Minister of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, Seyyed Reza Saleh Amiri, stated that this designation will open a new era for regional tourism. He announced that collaborative projects between the Qazvin Governor's Office, the Qazvin Municipality, and relevant ministries will be implemented to accelerate infrastructure development in the area.
