Alan David Smith pleads guilty to nine child abuse material charges

Alan David Smith, a 70-year-old man, has pleaded guilty to nine charges in Tamworth Local Court involving child abuse material. Following negotiations, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) withdrew twelve other offences against him.

The charges Smith admitted to include possessing, accessing, and transmitting child abuse material via a carriage service, as well as three counts of using a carriage service to solicit such material. Court documents indicate that five of these charges are first offences, while four relate to prior or subsequent offending.

Judge Julie Soars refused bail, and Smith is currently being held in a Sydney prison. The matter has been committed for sentencing to the Tamworth District Court, with a formal arraignment scheduled for November.
