Alan Jones trial: Mother testifies regarding trust in broadcaster

During the trial of 85-year-old broadcaster Alan Jones, the mother of a complainant testified regarding her trust in Jones as a mentor. She told the Downing Centre Local Court that she felt comfortable allowing her son to visit Jones’s private property in Fitzroy Falls because she viewed him as an older mentor who showed interest in her son’s intelligence.

The complainant, identified as “Complainant A”, alleges that during a visit to the Southern Highlands property when he was 17, Jones kissed him, put his tongue in his mouth, and touched his buttocks. The complainant testified that the incident left him feeling “violated” and that his mood changed noticeably upon returning from the trip.

The court heard that the family had previously contacted Jones due to severe financial distress, including a $1.3 million mortgage and an unfinished home. Evidence presented showed that Jones subsequently provided significant assistance, including $100,000 toward home completion and using his influence to help reduce the family's home loan by $600,000.

Jones has pleaded not guilty to 21 counts of indecent assault and sexual touching involving five male complainants between 2003 and 2020.
