Alan Kohler to retire from ABC after three decades
Alan Kohler, a long-time finance presenter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), has announced his retirement at the end of 2026. Kohler, 74, will deliver his final finance report on the 7pm News on 16 December.
Kohler joined the ABC in 1995 as a business and economics correspondent for The 7.30 Report and has served as the lead finance presenter on the 7pm News since 2002. He is widely recognized for his use of inventive graphics, dry humor, and his signature “And that’s finance” sign-off. In addition to his news roles, he has hosted Inside Business and the podcast That’s Business.
ABC Managing Director Hugh Marks praised Kohler’s “extraordinary” contribution, noting his ability to help Australians understand complex economic issues with clarity and engagement. The broadcaster plans to begin a succession process to find a replacement for the presenter in the coming weeks.
