Alan Ritchson to star in Helldivers film as release date shifts to 2028
Sony Pictures has announced that Alan Ritchson will star in the film adaptation of the video game Helldivers, replacing Jason Momoa, who left the project earlier this summer. Ritchson is best known for his role in the series Reacher.
Alongside the casting change, the film's release date has been rescheduled from November 10, 2027, to June 9, 2028. The delay is intended to provide sufficient production time to recreate the tactical combat and science fiction scale of the original cooperative action franchise developed by Arrowhead Game Studios.
Directed by Justin Lin, the production involves PlayStation Productions and Perfect Storm Entertainment. The story follows an elite unit of soldiers defending the fictional planet Super Earth from alien threats. The screenplay is being finalized by Gary Dauberman.
