Alan Shearer to reduce Match of the Day appearances

Alan Shearer is reducing his appearances on the BBC’s flagship football programme, Match of the Day, to once per month. The former Premier League top goalscorer stated he wants to reclaim some of his Saturdays to attend more Newcastle United matches.

Despite the reduced schedule on the highlights show, Shearer will continue to provide commentary for the BBC during live FA Cup matches. The BBC has also expanded its punditry roster for the new season, adding Toby Alderweireld, Robbie Keane, Ashley Young, and Thomas Frank.

Additionally, Shearer commented on the increasing trend of Premier League players refusing to train or play to force transfers away from their clubs, describing the practice as “not a good look” for players who receive high salaries while supporters pay to watch them.
