Alan Shearer urges Manchester United to sign striker

Alan Shearer has suggested that Manchester United needs to sign an additional striker to reach the ‘next level’ following a 2-0 opening-day defeat to Hull City in the 2026/27 Premier League season.

Despite spending approximately £150m on midfield reinforcements including Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans, and Andrey Santos, the club appeared to lack depth in attack and defense during their loss. Shearer noted that Benjamin Sesko was not at full fitness, missing several chances after being substituted on in the second half. With Joshua Zirkzee reportedly surplus to requirements and Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo deputising in the forward role, Shearer believes a new centre-forward is a priority before the transfer window closes.

Under manager Michael Carrick, the club is also reportedly seeking a left-back to provide cover for Luke Shaw.
