Alange Spa extends autumn season in Extremadura
The Alange Spa, a thermal complex in Extremadura with significant historical value, will remain open through November. Located near Mérida, the site features Roman circular baths dating back to at least the 3rd century AD, when the area was part of the ancient Emerita Augusta.
Historical evidence includes a votive altar dedicated by the patrician Licinio Sereniano to the goddess Juno. The site's use for thermal purposes continued through the Roman and Muslim eras. Following a period of decline, the spa underwent major modernization starting in 1863 after being acquired by local physician Abdón Berbén, who added marble baths, gardens, and hydrothermal treatment galleries while preserving the ancient structures.
