Alanis Morissette sues former tour manager for alleged blackmail

Singer Alanis Morissette has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles against her former tour manager, Keren Urin, accusing her of orchestrating a calculated blackmail campaign.

The legal action follows an incident in July involving a bag containing marijuana and xylazine that was flagged by British Border Force officials while the crew was traveling from the United Kingdom to Spain. Morissette alleges that Urin initially claimed ownership of the drugs to authorities but later threatened to tell British officials that the substances belonged to the singer unless Morissette agreed to employ her for 15 years. Morissette described the subsequent communications from Urin and her attorney as “extortionate letters.”

This legal battle follows a previous incident in which Morissette’s former business manager, Jonathan Schwartz, embezzled millions of dollars from her. Schwartz, who was sentenced to prison after admitting to stealing approximately $7.2 million from Morissette and other clients, expressed regret for his actions and noted that the singer’s tendency to trust professionals may have contributed to the betrayal.
