Alantra launches €120M energy-transition fund via Shell Ventures acquisition
Alantra has launched a €120 million energy-transition secondaries fund, named Horizon Secondaries, to acquire growth-stage assets from Shell Ventures. The transaction includes ten portfolio companies backed by Shell Ventures with operations across North America, Europe, and Asia.
The companies in the portfolio focus on sectors such as sustainable mobility, low-carbon technologies, electrification, digitalization, and emissions management. The move is described by Shell Ventures managing partner Quennie Co as a strategic reallocation of capital to allow the energy major to concentrate on areas where it can add the most value.
This launch marks a new strategy for Alantra Asset Management, targeting later-stage businesses that require growth capital. The transaction was advised by Addleshaw Goddard and highlights a growing trend in the energy-transition ecosystem where specialist funds seek liquidity from early backers while underlying businesses remain in high-growth phases.
