Alanya avocado receives EU Geographical Indication application
The Alanya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ALTSO) has officially submitted an application for the European Union Geographical Indication for Alanya avocados. The application was formalized during a ceremony attended by local officials, agricultural representatives, and stakeholders.
ALTSO President Eray Erdem stated that the initiative is designed to increase the international recognition and value of the product while protecting the efforts of local producers. This move follows a similar branding effort for Alanya carob, as part of a broader strategy to transform regional agricultural products into global brands.
Other key figures, including Alanya Mayor Osman Tarık Özçelik and Avocado Producers Association President Hilmi Sevilgen, emphasized the importance of the registration for the local economy and the protection of agricultural labor.
