Alanya begins 2026-2027 avocado harvest season

The 2026-2027 avocado harvest season has commenced in Alanya, Turkey, beginning with the early-ripening Clifton variety. Initial producer prices are being determined by fruit weight, with 160-gram avocados selling for approximately 35 lira, 200-gram fruits for 45 lira, and larger varieties of 250 grams or more reaching up to 60 lira per unit.

Agricultural officials have issued warnings against premature harvesting to protect the brand value and quality of Alanya avocados. Hilmi Sevilgen, President of the Alanya Avocado Producers Association, noted that harvesting under-ripe fruit can lead to consumer dissatisfaction due to internal darkening and poor ripening. While overall regional yields are expected to increase two to three times compared to last year, the Clifton variety specifically has seen a yield reduction to half of last year's levels due to seasonal fruit drop.

Tahir Göktepe, President of the Alanya Chamber of Agriculture, announced that the price-setting model from the previous season will continue. The Chamber is currently seeking four producers from across the eastern and western regions of Alanya to serve on a commission to represent growers in the pricing process alongside the Avocado Producers Association.
