Alanya Health Officials Warn Elderly of Heat Risks as Summer Temperatures Rise
Doç. Dr. Özgür Nalbant, coordinator of the 60+ Renewal Program at Alaaddin Keykubat University in Alanya, warned that the approaching summer heat in Turkey's Mediterranean region poses serious health risks for older adults. He explained that high temperatures can cause dehydration, low blood pressure, heat‑stroke, cardiovascular events and kidney failure, often developing silently.
Nalbant urged seniors to stay hydrated, avoid midday exposure, seek shade, wear light clothing and monitor for early signs of heat‑related illness. He highlighted that climate change is expected to increase the frequency of heat waves, making protective measures a growing public‑health priority in the region.
