Alaquàs commemorates historical women's protest at paella contest

During the 50th anniversary of the Alaquàs paella competition, local history was revisited regarding the role of women in the festival. Isabel Cosme, a member of the group La Corbella, recalled a 1977 protest where a group of women was barred from entering the cooking contest solely because of their gender.

To protest the discrimination, the women participated in the local parade carrying a banner that denounced the organizers' decision. This historical act of rebellion is being commemorated alongside the milestone anniversary of the contest, highlighting the evolution of gender equality within the community's traditions.
