Alaska Airlines announces fleet upgrades and new Narita–Seattle service

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have announced significant fleet updates and service expansions. Starting October 3, 2026, the Honolulu–Kahului route will transition to Boeing 737-800 aircraft. This move marks the beginning of a phase to replace the aging Boeing 717 fleet, which Hawaiian Airlines plans to retire completely by 2028.

The new 737-800 aircraft will feature Recaro leather seats, power outlets, and will eventually be equipped with Starlink high-speed Wi-Fi. This transition aims to enhance passenger and cargo capacity while maintaining reliable connectivity between the Hawaiian Islands.

Additionally, Alaska Airlines will introduce the Boeing 787-9 on the Narita–Seattle route beginning October 4, 2026. This marks the airline’s first wide-body aircraft and will debut its new international business class suites, featuring private cabins, premium dining, and luxury amenities. The deployment of the 787-9 in Japan represents a major step in the airline's international network expansion and long-term commitment to the Japanese market.
